Matt Cutts, one of Google’s leading search engineers, is Google’s principal source of advise to the public on how to get better website visibility in Google. His advise is general common sense advise that lends itself towards improving your website from a user’s point of view as well as from a search engine’s point of view. Most of the advise is also applicable to the other main search engines – Yahoo, Bing, Ask.

I have gathered a few very informative videos here that will help you understand some of the different factors that affect how a website performs in the search engines. Some of the videos may be a few years old but the advise is solid and still applies today.

  • The more time you put into search engine optimisation the better you will get
  • Use Google.com/webmasters to get information about how Google views your website
  • Get a business listing on Google Maps (Google Local)
  • A sitemap can help get your site fully indexed
  • Where to post video: short videos – YouTube, long videos – Google Video. A transcript and/or meta tags makes a big difference.
  • Make sure your site navigation is in HTML, not in Flash or dependent of JavaScript
